Cubby’s Bottle Trees
“Intentionally Made Better”

installing your bottle tree

Basic Bottle Tree Instructions:  When you get your Bottle Tree it will be 1, 2, or 3 pieces.  Mostly 1 or 2.

If your tree came with a base, use a posthole digger or shovel to dig down into the dirt 18” to make your tree 6’ high after it’s planted. Place the base of the tree in the hole. Pack dirt around the base and insert the top piece. That’s It. Once planted, there should be 12” of the base showing under the tree where it connects to the base pipe.. The Mack Daddy will have more showing because it is taller than the other trees.Do not pound the base into the ground

Pro Tip: If you have a piece of metal or wood that fits in the base AND STICKS OUT, You can pound that material to hammer your base in the ground.  ONLY if your soil is soft enough. AGAIN, if your soil is soft enough, you can put something like a spike in the base and hit that with a hammer, DO NOT POUND THE BASE PIPE Directly.

For smaller trees (The Conservative or most one-piece trees) it won’t have a separate base.  It’s a one-piece Bottle Tree. Insert the trunk 12” in the ground. You can use cement to make sure your tree is secure in the ground.  You can put dry concrete in your hole, around the trunk of the tree and water with a hose. .  Concrete is not required.

The farther down in the ground the tree is planted, the sturdier it will be when you’re finished.  With the Conservative Bottle Tree, bend the branches straight down from one another to give it that uniform look. The Name of your tree is on the outside of the box

If you’ve purchased The Mack Daddy Bottle Tree the trunk is longer than most and should go into the ground at least 24” inches. Keep it nice and straight. It will be 6.5 feet tall or more!

With The Mac Daddy, The Show Off, The Haint Chaser Trees, The Applewood, The Crab Apple and such trees “shape” the branches until the bottles are apart from each other and you like the looks. You will not break the branches off. When you’re finished, you can rotate the tree to face the best-looking side towards your view of the tree!

The BEST way to bend the branches is to start at the Upper branches. Place the “bending pipe” halfway down the branch and bend the branch down. Holding the end of the bending  pipe (the plastic pipe) with one hand, use your other hand to hold the trunk of your bottle tree and simply pull back until the branches are shaped the way you want them to look. SOME TREES DON’T COME WITH A BENDING PIPE. (The Seagrass, The Dogwood, etc) Those Bottle Trees just don’t need one.  It’s easier to bend the branches with your hands.

Your Tree will come with more detailed information and an easy-to-follow diagram.
